YOUNG LEARNER PROGRAMS
The American Cultural and Educational Center (ACEC) offers a variety of general English courses for youth learners. All new learners initially take a placement test which evaluates their current proficiency level in English. This enables us to place them in the appropriate level.
Our classes for these students are interactive and enriched with hands-on activities to ensure that they build their confidence in the four main language skills (Reading, Speaking, Writing and Listening).
These courses are for young learners, aged 6 to 12 years. They are designed to assist students to acquire the basic skills in English. In addition to this, these programs provide a carefully controlled grammatical syllabus with functional dialogues, word recognition, vocabulary building, alphabet/phonics work as well as songs and chants. Classroom interaction in English is encouraged from the very beginning through a focus on question and answer forms, dialogues, pair/group work, and communicative games.
This program is for young learners aged 6 – 12 years who have had some exposure to English. Learners can progress from the Beginner/Starter levels to this program. The program consists of 9 levels that gradually increase in difficulty. All courses focus on selected themes and situations that are universal and interesting to young children.
Experiences that are familiar to children are featured throughout the course in dialogues, songs and exercises. This enables learners to quickly begin speaking in English about situations to which they can easily relate. All activities are highly student-centered, and focus on the development of confidence and familiarity with the English language.
This program is for senior learners, aged 13 – 18 years. These courses are staggered into 14 levels to accommodate all proficiency levels, which range from Beginners to Upper Intermediate. Our curriculum for senior learners is carefully selected to cater for the interests of teenagers. Learners are encouraged to share their opinions and knowledge in an interactive class environment which provides them with a strong foundation to produce the English language effectively and confidently. All four language skills are incorporated into a theme-based curriculum.
